10 next Rangers manager candidates as Michael Beale gone with Potter and Muscat in frame

After a lacklustre season so far for Rangers, Michael Beale has been shown the door.

It is less than a year since the Londoner left QPR behind to return to Ibrox - where he had enjoyed a successful spell as Steven Gerrard's assistant - to replace Gio van Bronckhorst as manager. But after a bumper signing spree in the summer Beale has failed to turn Rangers around. The club are sitting seven points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title and October has only just started.

The 3-1 defeat to Aberdeenproved to be final straw for the Ibrox board. A run to the Viaplay Cup semi-final was not enough to save the boss with league form and crashing out of the Champions League playoff round strengthening the case for a change in the dugout. But with fans furious at the nightmare showings and results waining towards the end of Beale's tenure, who will they turn to next?

There is a lengthy list of candidates who fill want the job, but who is in the running? Record Sport takes a look.

Kevin Muscat was part of Alex McLeish’s Rangers Treble-winning side 20 years ago after moving to Ibrox from Wolves and the 50-year-old has carved out an impressive managerial CV, having also worked under former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou. He won the J-League with Yokohama F Marinos last season after succeeding Postecoglou, as he had at Melbourne Victory where he worked for six years.

But his only spell in Europe was short-lived when he had an unsuccessful stint at Belgian minnows Sint-Truiden. Earlier this season some bookmakers tipped him as the frontrunner to replace Beale, and with the boss out the door could a move now come to fruition?

Another name that was circulating around Ibrox earlier this season was Graham Potter.
