Met Office weather map shows where snow is forecast to fall just days after Christmas

The region surrounding Greater Manchester is expected to be hit by snow just days after Christmas.

A weather map from the Met Office shows that light to heavy snow could hit close to northern parts of the region, affecting parts of Rochdale and Oldham. Similarly, the Met Office's long-range forecast, which is subject to change in the coming days, states that northern areas can expect some snow from December 26 to January 4.

While areas closer to the Peak District such as Edale will be hit by much heavier snow, this is expected to spread to surrounding regions early on Wednesday, December 27. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be significantly colder, reaching as low as 4C.

The Met Office's long-range forecast for this period adds: "Some brighter/sunnier interludes between systems, though these generally brief. It will probably become a little milder again, at least at times, in the south, with the greater chance of colder interludes further north, where some snow is possible, especially over higher ground. Strong winds are also likely at times.

"Little general change is expected into the start of the new year."

Following this, showers are expected in the new year with "bands of rain" stretching across the country. However, some "brighter conditions" are expected in between this.

For those of us in the north, conditions are expected to be much wetter and windier than the rest of the country which may turn into colder spells later on in January, however, this is not set in stone due to the nature of long-range forecasts.
