The Met Office weather map shows that snow could fall again over Greater Manchester overnight. The forecaster said there is a chance of snowfall over parts of Wigan and Bolton late on Thursday evening (January 18).

The forecaster said there is a chance of snowfall at around 11.45pm and again in the early hours of Friday morning (January 19).

From around 7pm on Thursday, freezing temperatures were forecast again with another cold night predicted. The weather remained mostly dry and clear across Greater Manchester on Thursday.

The forecast comes just days after most of the region was blanketed in snow, with freezing conditions and a snow and ice warning put in place across the north west.

And the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) extended their amber Cold-Health Alert, covering the entirety of England, until midday on Saturday 20 January. The amber alert means that cold weather impacts are 'likely to be felt across the whole health service', with the potential for the 'whole population to be at risk'.

Overnight on Thursday, temperatures across the region are to drop to between 0C and 1C. More snow has been forecast from around 5am on Friday, over parts of Bolton, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside and central Manchester.

The Met Office said the blast of cold Arctic air is 'remaining dominant' over the UK, with snow and ice likely to continue ahead of the weekend for many in the northern half of the country, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of northwest and southwest England, and north and west Wales.

However, the freezing temperatures could shift on Friday afternoon, with a return to milder Atlantic air from the west. While the
