Met Office issues weekend weather warning for Greater Manchester
Hang on to your hats, it looks like we're in for a very breezy weekend.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind in Greater Manchester on both Saturday and Sunday. Forecasters warn gusts of up to 60mph 'are expected quite widely', while wind speeds of up to 70mph are possible on high ground.
There's also a chance of hail and thunder with 'squally showers' likely. The warnings run from 7am on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday and cover much of the west of England, including Greater Manchester and the whole of Scotland.
Forecasters warn the winds could cause delays to public transport and disruption on the roads on what is expected to be the busiest pre-Christmas getaway on record.
The warning adds: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves.
"Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead."
Despite the warnings conditions in Greater Manchester across the weekend are expected to be around average for this time of year. On Saturday temperatures are forecast to peak at 10C, with the chance of showers throughout the day, while Sunday looks slightly cooler with a similar chance of rain.
