Met Office issues update as 15-hour snow and ice warning hits Greater Manchester

Autumn is about to get colder with snow and ice forecast to hit Greater Manchester. The Met Office has updated a weather warning issued for this week.

Almost the entire North of England is now hit by a yellow weather warning for snow and ice, including Greater Manchester. The warning comes into effect at 7pm on Monday night (November 18).

It will be in place until 10am on Tuesday morning. The Met Office says: "An area of snow may bring disruption to a central swathe of the UK during Monday night and Tuesday morning."

Forecasters warn that the weather could lead to a 'small chance' of power cuts, travel delays and roads becoming impassable. The full warning covers all of the North except some coastal areas.

Northern parts of the Midlands, much of North Wales and southern Scotland are also affected. A separate warning for snow and ice is in place for parts of northern Scotland from 4pm today (Sunday) until 11am on Monday.

Temperatures are set to plummet in Manchester this week, with highs of 4C and 5C. The city could see lows of -2C on Friday, while temperatures are expected to hit zero or below every night.
