Meshack Ubochioma set for Dundee United transfer as Jim Goodwin snaps up Nigerian winger

Dundee United are set to sign Nigerian winger Meshack Ubochioma.

The 22-year-old has agreed a two year deal with United holding the option of another 12 months. The winger comes in as a free agent after leaving Hungarian side Zalagerszeg. United will finalise the move for the winger and will await international clearance. Ubochioma has had two spells at Zalagerszeg and has also had a stint with Slovenian side Nafta. United open up their Premiership campaign at home to Dundee in the derby tomorrow. Manager Jim Goodwin has already brought in several players and is still looking to add.

The Irishman's side will be given a guard of honour by their city rivals ahead of kick-off at Tannadice in recognition of their Championship triumph last season. And the former Aberdeen and St Mirren boss is hopeful that they can avoid dropping out of the top-flight again by getting off to a perfect start in the derby.

He said: “It’s a great occasion for both sets of supporters and for the players to really put down a marker and get the fans behind them. We’ll have good celebrations here prior to the game, flying the flag from the season below.

“That was a decent achievement but it’s not something we ever want to be celebrating again. We believe we have built a squad capable of competing at this level. Dundee set the bar by making the top six in their first season back up.

“Dundee are a good side and have added quality to the group. So we’re aware how difficult the game will be but there’s no nervousness within our group and we’re really looking forward to getting going.”
