Matt O'Riley Celtic transfer exit bid 'rejected' as Serie A swoop fails but Hoops braced for further interest

Celtic have reportedly rejected an offer from Bologna for star man Matt O'Riley.

The young Dane has spoken of his desire to compete at the top level under new boss Brendan Rodgers, but it appears the Hoops have been braced with heavy interest in the midfielder. The 22-year-old was previously the subject of reported interest from the Irishman himself when he was at Leicester City, and according to the Scottish Sun, O'Riley has been the subject of a swoop from the Serie A side.

The report claims the swoop was quickly dismissed by the Parkhead powerbrokers, but clubs in Italy and Spain are said to be look at the Celtic star who has a contract in place until 2026. Former Barcelona man Thiago Motta has identified the ex-Fulham kid as a target and the Italians are said not to be put off by their offering being booted out. They could return with a higher figure before the window slamming shut next week.

It means more offers could be on the way for O'Riley with Rodgers looking to add quality rather than lose a key player. The report suggest firm approaches have been made for the attacker with clubs in England also keen. It comes as Celtic look to tie down key men Reo Hatate and Liel Abada with new contract talks.
