Brendan Rodgers in Celtic transfer deja vu as player profile laid bare to board with 'make something happen' plea

Concerned Kenny Dalglish has urged Celtic to splash the cash and allow Brendan Rodgers to dip into the English market this summer.

Rodgers and his Celtic team are feeling the heat after two consecutive games without a goal and were met with boos after their lacklustre 0-0 draw at home to struggling St Johnstone - just days after crashing out of the Viaplay Cup at the hands of Kilmarnock . The Irishman will look to turn things around in the next game - but an Ibrox cauldron awaits with Rangers looks to put down a marker in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Now Dalglish has called for the Parkhead to throw money behind the boss to bring in the players from south of the border English market - like he did during his successful first spell. Writing for The Sunday Post, he says a veteran should be snapped up on a short-term deal or a young prospect brought to Parkhead on loan.

He said: “Celtic find themselves in a position where they have a bit of work to do before the transfer window closes on Friday night. They would much prefer to have everything done and dusted by this stage, but that is not the case.

“Brendan, I’m sure will have his own players in mind and there will be targets identified by the recruitment department. It could well be that they look at a veteran type of player on a short-term deal or a younger player on loan from an EPL club for the season.

“Of course, if they identify the right type and he costs money, then the club is in a healthy financial position to make something happen. So, I would expect Celtic to be prepared able to react to this situation.
