Mason Mount sends three-word message to Rasmus Hojlund after Man Utd vs Aston Villa goal

Mason Mount led the social media praise for Rasmus Hojlund after his first Premier League goal earned a dramatic victory for Manchester United.

Months of toiling for a first domestic goal finally ended when his left-footed shot cannoned in off the post to send Old Trafford into raptures. Aston Villa were 2-0 up at half-time and appeared destined to compound more misery on Erik ten Hag but United came out swinging in the second half.

Two brilliant goals from Alejandro Garnacho pegged the hosts back before Hojlund bagged a dream winner with eight minutes remaining. The Dane burst with emotion at full-time, describing himself as the “happiest man alive” for breaking his goal drought.

Praise poured in from his teammates on social media, with injured midfielder Mount one of the first to react. The 24-year-old posted an Instagram story with the caption “Deserve it brother, what a win lads” to his 6.3 million followers.

Casemiro, another crocked midfielder, echoed Mount’s sentiments, posting “What a win lads” shortly after the final whistle. Raphael Varane, who played the entire 90 minutes for just the fourth time in 2023-24, also shared a celebratory image online.

Star of the show Garnacho dedicated the “Christmas present” to the Man United fans who stuck by the team following a difficult first half. His Instagram post read: “Christmas present, Reds! No one deserves this more than our fans. We are Manchester United!”
