Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund sends strong message to critics after goal vs Tottenham

Rasmus Hojlund has played down his slow start to life at Manchester United by insisting he's always believed in his ability to score, reminding his critics that he is still a young player.

Hojlund scored his first goal in the Premier League against Aston Villa during the festive period and he notched his second against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The striker found the back of the net in just the third minute of the game with an instinctive, powerful effort, which was rifled beyond Guglielmo Vicario and into the roof of the goal.

Hojlund also combined well with Marcus Rashford to make it 2-1 before half-time, but Spurs drew level shortly after the break and the points were shared.

After the game, Hojlund emerged for his media duties and he answered questions about his lack of goals this season. "There's been a lot of focus about me not scoring in the Premier League, but I've always believed in myself," Hojlund told Sky Sports.

"It's taken time but it's not like I've not been scoring goals. My teammates help me every day. You can always take the confidence with you from the earlier games. It's instinct."

In a separate interview with the BBC, Hojlund said: "It's started to click maybe now a little bit. I think we are linking up better offensively and we can see that.

"I know there is pressure when you come here but I am 21 next month. I am a young player, I have loads of time. There is pressure when you are a football player for Manchester United."

Hojlund scored five in the Champions League group stage before United exited the competition and he now has seven in all competitions.
