Mason Greenwood named in Getafe squad as Manchester United player awaits debut

Mason Greenwood has been named in Getafe’s matchday squad for the first time since his deadline day loan switch from Manchester United.

However, manager Jose Bordalas hinted that a debut might be on hold after saying the attacker needs time to get back up to speed. He has not played since January 2022 after being suspended by United amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

In February, the Crown Prosecution Service said all charges against the 21-year-old had been dropped. Greenwood has always denied the allegations.

Last month, United stated that it had concluded its own investigation and felt it best that Greenwood continued his career elsewhere. His contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025.

Greenwood did not feature in the Getafe squad that lost to Real Madrid before the interntional break but has been included for Sunday’s visit of Osasuna. Bordalas explained that his squad has welcomed Greenwood into the club but that his teammates and club fans may have to wait before they see the player take to the field.

Speaking in a press conference, as per Mundo Deportivo, the Getafe manager said: “He [Greenwood] is a great hope and there is a great expectation to see him play. However, he has not played for over 18 months. He will need a period of adaptation in order to rise to the level of his teammates.

“We have to be patient and take care of him. The day-to-day will tell us when he is able to compete. You have to have patience.
