Martinez, Casemiro, Hojlund - Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Wigan clash

All eyes will be on the condition of Manchester United's matchday squad when they face Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup at the DW Stadium on Monday night.

United, who brought 2023 to a close with a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, have been hampered by injury and illness troubles in recent weeks. Rasmus Hojlund was the latest name to be added to the list of absentees against Forest, missing out through illness.

His absence meant United were without a recognised No.9 in their matchday squad, with Anthony Martial also missing through illness. However, Hojlund was spotted training with the rest of his teammates at Carrington on Wednesday, suggesting that he has now recovered.

Meanwhile, other members of the injury list were also spotted being put through their paces at the club's training base in midweek, suggesting that they are closing in on returns to action. With that said, MEN Sport has taken a close look at the current state of play on the injury front ahead of the trip to Wigan.

Martinez, in video footage released by the club on Wednesday, was filmed participating in a first-team training session at Carrington. He has been sidelined since September after undergoing a second round of surgery on a recurring foot problem.

Though United have not set an exact date for when he could be back in action, a return is not thought to be too far away. Ten Hag hinted prior to the New Year weekend that Martinez, plus others, could be back available by "mid-January".

Possible return date: January.
