Martin Lukeman continues World Grand Prix run to reach last-eight

Martin Lukeman continued his run at the World Grand Prix to edge out Ross Smith and reach the quarter-finals in Leicester.

Lukeman had pulled off a shock victory over two-time former champion James Wade, the fifth seed, in the opening round.

The 37-year-old recovered from a miscount in the fourth leg of the deciding set to wrap up a sudden-death victory over Smith on a double-top finish to secure his place in a major televised quarter-final for the first time.

World number one Gerwyn Price rallied to come from behind and defeat Joe Cullen over five sets.

Cullen had opened up a 2-1 lead before Welshman Price, who won the tournament two years ago, reeled off six consecutive legs - which included an impressive 134 checkout - to move into the last eight.

The final match of Thursday's evening session saw Nathan Aspinall produce a stunning recovery to record a 3-2 victory over Dutchman Danny Nopper, who squandered four match darts.

Aspinall, who defeated number four seed Michael Smith in the last round, fought his way back from 2-0 down to force a deciding set.

After Nopper missed four opportunities to seal victory, Aspinall held his nerve to take the contest through to a sudden-death final leg.

Nopper struggled to find a double to start as Aspinall took full advantage, closing out the decider to set up a quarter-final showdown with Lukeman.

Latvian Madars Razma had earlier ended the hopes of Northern Ireland's 2017 winner Daryl Gurney with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

After losing the first leg of the match, Razma responded to take the opening set and never looked back as he closed out an impressive performance, which included five 180s and 92.4 average.
