Martin Lewis shares online shopping tip to get hidden discount codes for Amazon, eBay and more

Martin Lewis has shared an online shopping tip that could help you find hidden discount codes to get money off your basket.

In Tuesday night's edition of the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV, the money saving expert explained how abandoning your basket after you've added the items you're after can sometimes prompt retailers into enticing you back with discount codes in the days afterwards.

Sharing his top tips for shopping over the festive season, he told : "Log in, put the stuff you want in the shopping basket, and walk away. And often within a few days, they will offer you a discount."

He said he had asked his followers on X, formerly Twitter, for successful examples and the show had received more than 700 responses. "It looks like the top three on this are eBay, Etsy and Amazon, and quite a few more as well" his co-host Jeanette Kwakye said.

Giving some more specific examples, she said: "Sarah got in touch and she said 'after leaving my New Look basket for a couple of days I received a 25 per cent discount code which I used and bought everything' - so that was really smart. And then, Skye tweeted back and said 'eBay gave me quite a lot'. Here's one example - a Macbook Pro down from £240 to £180. So walk away, walk away!"

"Abandon your shopping baskets, everyone, it doesn't always work but it's worth a try," Mr Lewis added.

Mr Lewis also ran through some online shopping tools that can help you find good deals. He said Google Shopping and pricerunner.com are good sites to use to compare the prices of products, while sites like LoveSales.com will send shoppers alerts
