Met Office weekend weather forecast after snow falls with more forecast across UK

Greater Manchester is waking to another cold day today - and the freezing temperatures are set to continue into the weekend.

Snow fell over some parts of our region overnight, with residents in parts of Oldham and Rochdale waking to a small dusting this morning. Forecasters predict more of the white stuff could fall over parts of the UK today and into the weekend as cold air from Scandinavia continues to sweep over.

In Greater Manchester, temperatures won't rise above 4C today, though bright and clear conditions are forecast. It will be another freezing cold night into Friday as the mercury drops to -2C tomorrow morning.

According to the Met Office, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are all forecast to be largely clear and bright in the North West, though it will continue to feel cold with temperatures dropping to -3C in the early hours. Although no further snow is forecast for our region yet, freezing temperatures overnight could lead to icy conditions and there is 'still a risk of some wintry flurries over hills'.

Elsewhere in the UK, snow has started to settle in parts of eastern Scotland and north-eastern England. A yellow warning for snow and ice – covering areas in north-east England, the East Midlands, the east of England, Yorkshire and Humber and parts of Scotland – will be active from 5pm on Thursday until 11am on Friday.

Another, affecting Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, will be in place until 4pm on Thursday. An earlier warning remains in place until 11am on Thursday for eastern Scotland and
