Manchester United make Jarrad Branthwaite 'decision' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have identified Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as their 'primary defensive target' from within the Premier League.

That is according to a report by TEAMtalk, which claims United, who face Everton on Sunday, have pinpointed him as a player of interest. United plan to strengthen their centre-back options in 2024, with the position in desperate need of a long-term plan being put in place.

United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News in September, want to strengthen four key areas next year, with the centre of the defence among them. Uncertainty currently surrounds the futures of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, while Jonny Evans is out-of-contract at the end of the season.

The Reds have been linked with signing Sporting Lisbon ace Goncalo Inacio in recent weeks, but he is also reportedly generating interest from both Liverpool and Real Madrid. He has a buyout clause in his Sporting contract worth €60million.

However, it is claimed that United have taken a liking to Branthwaite, reportedly because of his 'impressive positioning' and 'good decision-making on the ball'. He has made an impressive start to this season, making 12 appearances in all competitions so far, featuring 10 in the Premier League.

The youngster impressed out on loan at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven last season, making 36 appearances under the watchful eye of former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. He has also spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the past.
