Martin Keown blasts Marcus Rashford for Manchester United 'dive' against Nottingham Forest

Martin Keown has accused Marcus Rashford of diving for Manchester United's winning penalty against Nottingham Forest.

Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot to complete a 3-2 comeback at Old Trafford. United were 2-0 down after four minutes but fought themselves level through Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

Then Rashford went down under a challenge from Danilo in the area and United were awarded a penalty. Replays show there was contact from the Forest midfielder, albeit not a great deal.

Whilst that was enough to satisfy VAR that a penalty should be awarded, Keown was incensed. He labelled Rashford's fall as a dive and insisted those at Stockley Park should have intervened.

"For me, there's no way that is a penalty," he told BBC Sport's Final Score.

"It's unreal and in the wake of what we heard with Mike Dean this week about not reporting things to save the referee, I mean, I'm looking at that thinking, 'why has VAR missed that?'

"It's a dive. It's a blatant dive from Rashford. Any contact is from when Rashford brings his leg up as he dives."

Forest boss Steve Cooper felt his side were very hard done to. “I was just surprised how quickly the officials made the decisions," he said.

"It was split-second stuff. You just need things to go your way. I’m just biting my tongue, in terms of what I really feel. Of course they were defining moments in the game. - although there was other things as well.”
