Mark Birighitti sees Dundee United exit shot to Israel collapse as keeper fails to agree deal

Mark Birighitti was unable to agree a deal with Hapoel Petach-Tikva before Tuesday night's Israeli transfer deadline.

The Premier League side had trashed out terms with Dundee United over a season-long loan but couldn’t sort out personal terms. Birighitti has now decided to remain at Tannadice, despite being surplus to requirements. Petach-Tikva were trying to clinch the deal before the domestic window closed but couldn't tie up a deal.

It is the second move that the keeper has seen collapse in recent weeks. The Australian international still has this season left on his United deal but isn’t part of Jim Goodwin’s first-team plans. The 32-year-old has not been part of Goodwin’s plans since United were relegated. Birighitti has had a troubled time in his time at United since he arrived from Central Coast Mariners - where he was A-League keeper of the year.

Meanwhile, United’s appeal against Matthew Cudjoe’s weekend red card against Morton has been thrown out. The winger will now face a two match ban. A club statement read: "Dundee United can confirm the appeal against the red card shown to Mathew Cudjoe during Saturday's cinch Championship match against Morton has been dismissed.

"The midfielder will serve a two-match suspension, which includes this weekend's match versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle and our next home fixture against Queen's Park on the 30 September."
