Broxburn Athletic winger keen to make Scottish Cup memories with hometown team

Broxburn Athletic winger Calum Heath is hoping to experience some Scottish Cup success with his hometown club.

The Brox host Highland League side Nairn County at Albyn Park on Saturday looking to book their name in the second round draw. But while he’s dreaming of replicating the club’s magical run to the fourth round from the 2019-20 season, he knows they’ll be punished by Saturday’s opponents if they dare think beyond this weekend.

Heath, in his first season with Athletic, has spent time at Stirling University and Blackburn United during his career and is no stranger to the early stages of the competition.

Winning ties for Broxburn, however, would make it that little bit more special.

Speaking to the West Lothian Courier, he said: “I’ve played in it at the past few years with previous clubs but, being a local lad, I know the history of Broxburn and the run they went on a few years ago. There’s always something a wee bit special about the Scottish Cup and this weekend is no different.

“We’re coming up against a team in a different league that we probably don’t know as well as some of the other teams in the competition. You never know what can happen in the cup or how far you can go but we just have to focus on Saturday.

“We just need to concentrate on our gameplan and focus on ourselves. We go into every game with a winning mentality and everyone’s on the same page in the changing room in terms of the standards we set and demand of each other."

He added: "We’ve had a brilliant start to the season so we can go into the game with confidence but we know Nairn are a very good team in a very good league. It’s going to be a tough game but we’ve got the quality in the squad to get ourselves into the next round.”
