Mario Hermoso to Man United transfer truth revealed as Erik ten Hag makes announcement promise

It has been revealed whether or not Manchester United are pursuing the signing of Mario Hermoso. The 29-year-old defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to further bolster his backline.

Hermoso, who became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid in June, featured 31 times in La Liga last season, keeping 10 clean sheets. Playing a key role in Diego Simeone's side, he helped Los Colchoneros finish fourthand secure Champions League qualification.

After five years at the Cívitas Metropolitano, the Spain international opted against signed a new deal. With the player yet to find a new club and Leny Yoro sidelined due to injury, Hermoso has emerged as a shrewd opportunity in the market.

In fact, according to The Athletic, club executives met the Spaniard in Madrid last week. The report states that Hermoso has been holding talks with prospective new clubs ahead of the new season.

However, despite entertaining discussions, The Athletic add that United are not pursuing the centre-half, although they are exploring their options. While the summer transfer window doesn't slam shut until the end of August, the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign is just around the corner.

Last week, Ten Hag called for patience on new signings. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Red Devils' clash against Manchester City in the Community Shield, the Dutchman claimed that his squad is in a 'good position'.
