Marc Cucurella admission should concern Manchester United amid transfer interest

A new left-back is suddenly a priority for Manchester United as the club scramble for transfer cover amid multiple injuries.

A muscular issue saw Luke Shaw miss Saturday's 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest and there are growing fears that the England international could be out for up to two months. Tyrell Malacia is yet to feature this season after returning to Carrington in the summer with an unspecified injury.

It leaves Erik ten Hag with just one fit left-back, however 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez is yet to play a first-team game for the Reds. On Saturday, Diogo Dalot was pushed across but a late move in the window looks the only viable option.

United are considering a number of options, but the cohort of available left-backs is understandably small, given there is less than a week until Friday's deadline. Marc Cucurella is one who could fit the bill, and the Chelsea man is being eyed.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an outstanding year with Brighton during the 2021/2022 season, earning him a £62million move to Chelsea last summer. But things haven't gone quite as smoothly since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, and speaking this summer, he suggested the pressure of playing for a big club may have been a factor.

"I play all my career in a [smaller] club so we don't have this pressure," Cucurella told ESPN in July. "When you come to these big clubs, you feel this pressure and sometimes it is not easy to play with this pressure because you know you need to win every game.

"Sometimes you need to adapt as well to these situations, but this is part of life. Sometimes you have good years, bad years, but the most important thing is to learn and have energy
