Manchester United website 'hints' at Alejandro Garnacho squad number change amid home kit release

Manchester United may have hinted that Alejandro Garnacho will get a squad number upgrade next season after leaving his name off the new home shirt customisation options.

United's 2023/2024 home shirt was officially released a week ago, following a number of 'leaks' and a high-profile showing from Manchester-born rapper Aitch at Glastonbury. The shirt looks set to become an instant classic, with the iconic red rose detailing going down well with supporters.

Many fans have already been online to order the new shirt and can customise it to have their favourite player's name and number on the back. But those wanting Garnacho on the back have been left disappointed by his notable absence from the drop-down menu.

The Argentinian wore the No.49 shirt last season, but the Manchester Evening News reported last month that the club are considering offering him the famous No.7. The 18-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since making his first-team debut against Chelsea in April last year, and has made no secret of his love for the number formerly worn by Cristiano Ronaldo.

And his conspicuous absence from the shirt customisation options might suggest an upgrade is on the way, although whether that be the No.7 remains to be seen. Garnacho would become the first teenage recipient of the squad number since Ronaldo's first stint in 2003.

The teenager has previously liked a tweet calling for the No.7 shirt to be sent his say, while a tattoo on his forearm shows a small boy wearing the famous number. His Instagram
