Manchester United transfer news LIVE Kylian Mbappe plan plus Mason Mount 'formal offer'

The summer transfer window officially opens today and Manchester United have a huge few months ahead of them.

Erik ten Hag has laid the foundations for a summer of significant investment as he looks to build a squad fit for a Premier League title challenge. The Dutchman is thought to be prioritising a world-class goalscorer and a technical midfielder, although reinforcements in several other positions are under consideration.

As forwards go, there are few better than Kylian Mbappe and the Frenchman has kicked off his yearly transfer saga by informing Paris Saint-Germain he will not sign a new contract, therefore forcing them to sell now or risk losing their star on a free next year. Reports in France have suggested PSG's Qatari owners are planning a deal with United, so long as Sheikh Jassim completes a takeover of the club.

Elsewhere, Ten Hag is reportedly looking to fill the midfield gap with Mason Mount, whose future at Chelsea is looking increasingly uncertain. United are expected to table a formal offer for the 24-year-old shortly, although it is still some way short of Chelsea's valuation.

Sheikh Jassim is still waiting to hear whether his fifth and final offer for Manchester United has been successful, according to PA sources close to the Qatari.

Recent reports within Qatar had indicated that the Sheikh's bid - which is for 100 per cent of the club - had seen off the bid from Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
