Manchester United transfer news LIVE Brighton vs Man Utd reaction plus Harry Kane latest

Manchester United still have plenty of work to do if they're to secure their place in the Champions League next season.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium last night meaning Erik ten Hag's side missed the chance to move ahead of Newcastle in the Premier League table. A last-minute penalty from Alexis Mac Allister secured the three points for the home side after Luke Shaw was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

United sit four points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand over their Merseyside rivals. Next up for Ten Hag's men is another trip south as they play West Ham in the capital on Sunday.

Meanwhile, United remain in pursuit of Harry Kane ahead of the summer transfer window. We'll bring you any updates on their chase of the Tottenham man as we get them.

Today's big talking point: Do you think Anthony Martial deserves to be at United next season? Have your say here.

United came away from their trip to the Amex Stadium empty-handed thanks to a late Alexis Mac Allister penalty.

Here's how our chief United writer Samuel Luckhurst rated the players:

David de Gea

Stood up well to block Kaoru Mitoma's third-minute chance with his face and carried on. Sixteenth Premier League clean sheet of the season. Big save from Alexis Mac Allister but beaten for the penalty. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Was involved in an absorbing duel with Mitoma, who had more joy than in the FA Cup semi-final, yet Wan-Bissaka still kept him at bay. 6
