Manchester United takeover latest with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to be handed transfer authority

Sir Jim Ratcliffe had hoped to be in the Manchester United boardroom by now but the takeover process continues to rumble on.

It is seemingly inevitable Ratcliffe will acquire a 25 per cent minority stake in the Reds. INEOS' founder has managed to withstand competition from the likes of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani to come on board.

But, speculation remains as to when Ratcliffe will join and what his era at United will mean for the club. The British billionaire is expected to be given the keys to the football project and in the latest look at the takeover headlines, it appears this will come with a power fans will love.

According to The Independent, Ratcliffe will have full authority on player transfers when he takes on his minority stake. Fears had grown that Joel Glazer could be allowed to veto decisions on signing players if he wished to. The report claims Ratcliffe will not need to consult the Glazers on any major decisions which could make the recruitment process a lot quicker than it is at present.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, there is currently no route set out for Ratcliffe to require a majority shareholding in United. Due to how long it has taken to get the INEOS man on the cusp of the boardroom, any decision to gain a larger chunk of the Reds is apparently a long way off.

In some slightly better news for supporters, Ornstein added it is unlikely Ratcliffe would have come on board without the end goal of eventually taking over the club in its entirety.
