Manchester United takeover latest as share price rockets amid '£7.3bn sale' rumours

Manchester United supporters are due to stage their first protest against the Glazers' ownership on Monday evening before the clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fan group The 1958 have made it clear they will continue their actions against the American family while they continue to own the club. As the protests were resuming at the start of another new season, United were given some hope about a potential sale this weekend.

The unlikely source of this information was Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman who claimed in a BBC Sport interview the Glazers were set to sell for £7.3bn. While there is no indication this is true, the Championship executive appears to have done wonders for United's share price.

Following Dalman's claims about the Glazers being on the brink of selling United, the Reds' share price has enjoyed a boost. On Monday morning, the New York Stock Exchange opened with the club priced at $23.84 per share.

As of 5:15pm in the UK, the share price stood at $24.26, a whopping 6.89 per cent up on the previous day. While this remains some way off the 52-week high of $27.03, it is a sign of optimism among the markets about a takeover being on the horizon.
