Manchester United suffer Casemiro blow with three teammates in line for new contracts

Manchester United have told Casemiro to stay in Brazil to recover from a small issue sustained on international duty, meaning he misses Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United.

The earliest the midfielder can return is in the home Manchester derby clash on October 29, with his red card against Galatasaray rules him out of the next week’s Champions League clash against Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, three of his teammates are set to be offered new contracts. United have already shaken hands with the likes of Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot over renewals in 2023 and more are set to be added to that list.

United say Casemiro has remained in Brazil to recover from a "small issue" he sustained whilst playing for the national team.

Casemiro started in Brazil's World Cup qualifying draw with Venezuela on Friday but came off with an ankle injury. He recovered to complete 90 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Uruguay on Tuesday evening.

Hannibal Mejbri's deal is also expected to be extended as United buy time over a possible renewal. Wan-Bissaka's representatives held discussions about an improved contract prior to the injury he sustained against Brighton on September 16.
