Manchester United star is running out of time to prove Hakim Ziyech prediction correct

It's looking unlikely that Donny van de Beek will be able to prove Hakim Ziyech's prediction on his time at Manchester United correct.

United looked to have pulled off a coup when they swooped in to sign highly-rated Ajax playmaker Van de Beek ahead of Real Madrid. A fee of around £36million was paid and it seemed that a bargain had been secured.

Things have not gone well for the Dutchman since, though. Despite scoring on his debut, Van de Beek has yet to get a real chance in the first team after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn't seem to rate him before he headed out on loan to Everton 18 months into his time in England.

The 26-year-old didn't impress much at Goodison Park before injuries curtailed his season but it was hoped a reunion with Erik ten Hag could re-spark the form he showed in Amsterdam. Instead, Van de Beek remained a peripheral figure before a knee injury ended his season in January.

Van de Beek's former Ajax teammate Ziyech once predicted that the midfielder would eventually show his quality at Old Trafford if given time but that hasn't been the case so far. "We spoke in the beginning when he moved to Manchester. And last week we didn’t speak a lot, we didn’t speak about his situation," he said.

"I think he will need time as well. He comes from a different country, a different style of play. I know for sure it will take some time for him as well to get used to everything and then I know for sure he will bring quality to the squad over there. For him the most important thing right now is to stay calm."
