Manchester United ‘join race’ for former Man City star and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are preparing to join the race for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, according to reports.

The playmaker has been strongly linked with a switch to Liverpool, but United are apparently set to try and throw a spanner in the works. Erik ten Hag is said to be after a new midfielder once Rasmus Hojlund's arrival is confirmed.

Sofyan Amrabat is of interest and now the Independent says Lavia has joined his list too. The 19-year-old left Manchester City’s academy to join Southampton last year. The Blues have a buy-back option but this only triggers in 2024.

Any chance of United landing a new midfielder all depends on player sales. Fred has been linked with an exit while West Ham are keeping track of Scott McTominay. Outcasts such as Eric Bailly and Brandon Williams could also leave.

Another is Donny van de Beek. His 2022/23 season was cut short by a serious knee injury in January, one that required surgery which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Real Sociedad have been linked with an approach for the Dutchman. It was initially reported that concerns over his fitness and form had cast doubts in the minds of the Spaniards, who are looking for a replacement for David Silva following his unanticipated recent retirement.

Now, 90min claims Sociedad are looking to loan the 26-year-old with an option-to-buy clause attached. That proposal is unlikely to interest United, who want to receive a fee this summer for any exits. Nevertheless, the report says the player himself is keen on the move.
