'I like this' - New Manchester United signing Rasmus Hojlund drops exciting Cristiano Ronaldo comparison

New Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has given an early insight into what he aspires to become at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old forward completed his £72m move from Atalanta, filling the striker void that the Reds desperately needed to address this summer. Hojlund was unveiled to United fans during the club’s 3-1 win over Lens on Saturday, much to the delight of the home crowd.

The Denmark international is currently nursing a knock, which may delay his debut, but he was in attendance as Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro got on the scoresheet. In his first interview with MUTV, Hojlund hinted at something that will only increase the excitement surrounding his arrival, among the United fanbase.

The boyhood United supporter was asked about the influence that Cristiano Ronaldo has had on his development as a player in the early stage of his career. Reminiscing about the forward’s first spell at Old Trafford, Hojlund suggested that Ronaldo’s mindset is something that he strives to emulate.

"I think there’s an interview very early with Anderson and [Rio] Ferdinand - the reporter asked them ‘Who’s the best football player in the world?’ and he [Ronaldo] just said ‘Me’. I like this mentality, that’s the same mentality I go for," Hojlund admitted.
