Manchester United showed an attribute to make Sir Bobby Charlton proud vs Sheffield United

There's no doubt Sir Bobby Charlton was one of the greatest footballers ever to play for Manchester United, but for all his elegant and destructive brilliance, he was a fighter too, and in that sense, the team he became synonymous with showed similar traits at Bramall Lane on Saturday to pay their own tribute.

This was not the kind of performance that would have had Charlton purring, but it did end in a United victory, which would have him smiling. Charlton was renowned for his determination and grit and United had to display that in Yorkshire. They had to show the same kind of fighting spirit against Sheffield United that they did against Brentford two weeks ago, but successive victories have steadied a rocky start to the season for Erik ten Hag's side.

News of Charlton's death broke on Saturday afternoon and immediately added more significance to the occasion, well beyond the need for United to build on the momentum they built up with that dramatic conclusion before the international break.
