Manchester United's big-game habit that Bayern Munich are worried about
In Thomas Tuchel’s press conference on Tuesday ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League group stage clash against Manchester United, the former Chelsea boss earmarked United attackers Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund as opponents they must be wary of.
Since taking the job at Old Trafford, boss Erik ten Hag has adopted a transitional style of play in the bigger games, which has led to some of United’s best performances with the win over Manchester City at home in January this year, and the first leg against Barcelona in the Europa League springing to mind.
That is exactly what Tuchel is worried about, though he is aware of United’s slow start to the Premier League season.

Tuchel said: “Their results so far don’t say much about them. They can count on their excellent transitional play, with Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and now also Rasmus Hojlund up front. We can’t switch off at all.”
Ten Hag and United don’t have a record to boast about against the Premier League’s big six, with the Reds likely to put up another backs-to-the-wall display as they had done when successful against City, and in the 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou.
United at their best can be devastating on the counter-attack, with that only helped by the encouraging signs shown by Rasmus Hojlund. If United are to have a chance of beating the Bundesliga champions, they’ll need to soak up all the pressure they’re bound to face, with the right decisions needing to be made on the ball in transition from midfield players Fernandes and Casemiro.
