Manchester United player ratings vs Aston Villa as Alejandro Garnacho and Jonny Evans superb

Manchester United came from behind to secure a superb 3-2 win over Aston Villa in the Boxing Day Premier League fixture at Old Trafford.

Goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker gave the high-flying visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time, with the crowd again frustrated by United's erratic performance. Sir Dave Brailsford was in attendance for the first match since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment was announced but boos rang out at half-time for Erik ten Hag's side.

Alejandro Garnacho had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR early in the second half but got on the scoresheet minutes later with a well-taken finish. He scored again in the 71st minute to get United back on level terms and Rasmus Hojlund got his first Premier League goal to seal an excellent comeback.

Our chief writer Samuel Luckhurst was at Old Trafford and here are his player ratings.

Raphael Varane

Failed to take command at either of the set-pieces Villa scored from but otherwise okay from attacks in open play. 6

Diogo Dalot

Not for the first time, he performed like a right-back playing at left-back. Ventured into the final third to supplement attacks and improved. 6

Kobbie Mainoo
