Manchester United player ratings vs Nottingham Forest as Antony and Scott McTominay poor

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The evening started badly when Erik ten Hag was forced into a line-up change with Rasmus Hojlund unwell and Antony brought into the team. The Brazilian was substituted early in the second half for Amad, who made his first appearance since recovering from a long-term injury.

United struggled for chances in the opening 45 minutes and their attacking struggles continued in the second half. Diogo Dalot had their first real chance when he hit the post with a long-range effort. But Forest proved more clinical when Nicolas Dominguez fired home in the 64th minute, slotting the ball into the net with ease.

Marcus Rashford equalised for United in the 78th minute after a blunder from goalkeeper Matt Turner but just minutes later Morgan Gibbs-White gave Forest the lead again with a beautiful shot. Our chief United writer Samuel Luckhurst was in the pressbox and here are his player ratings.

Andre Onana

Did not have a save to make in the first half and had no chance with either of Forest's goals as United failed to shield him. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Responsible for United's sole shot - if it can be called that - in the first half. Not switched on defensively often enough. 5

Jonny Evans

Another solid performance amid heckles of 'Leicester reject'. Kept up with the buccaneering Anthony Elanga. Let down by the invisible midfield. 6

Raphael Varane

Diced with death when he hacked at the ball from Elanga's cross and committed a cynical foul on Elanga. Not a comfortable night. 5

Diogo Dalot

Hit the post with United's first
