Manchester United linked with £25million Torino defender and more transfer news

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno. Erik ten Hag is expected to search for a new centre-back this year, being one of his four areas of targeted squad improvement.

Raphael Varane is set to leave the club this summer as things stand with his contract expiring in June. The 2018 World Cup winner feels he is being pushed out of Old Trafford and is unsure whether he will sign a reduced-terms renewal if he is offered one after United indicate they would not extend his current contract.

Victor Lindelof has had his year-long contract extension triggered while Harry Maguire’s contract runs for another 18 months. Jonny Evans penned a 12-month deal last year and there's a possibility he is asked to stay on given his performances.

United are in need of a young natural centre-half given Lindelof will join Maguire, Evans and Varane in being north of 30 by the time next season starts. Lisandro Martinez, who turns 26 today, and 19-year-old Willy Kambwala are the only exceptions.

Buongiorno, 24, has impressed in Serie A in recent seasons and Erik ten Hag could spy a move for him this summer, says FourFourTwo. Torino could be willing to accept a €30m (£25m) fee for the twice-capped Italy international.

Ten Hag is keen on having left-footed players in the left-sided centre-back slot and Buongiorno fits that profile, also being able to play at left-back. He has found the net three times this season.
