Manchester United player ratings as Fred and Jadon Sancho poor vs Man City in FA Cup final

David de Gea

Wasn't set for Ilkay Gundogan's first volley and did not move his feet quickly enough to stop the saveable second. Needs moving on. 4

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

United's best player in the first half and he salvaged the attack that earned a penalty off Jack Grealish's handball. Harshly booked. 7

Raphael Varane

Missed a good chance as half time loomed. Dealt physically with Erling Haaland, who pulled onto Victor Lindelof regularly. 6

Victor Lindelof

Hesitated with his first duel and it led to City scoring after 12 seconds. Struggled to get to grips with Haaland all afternoon. 5

Luke Shaw

Quiet but disciplined. Solid enough in defence but had little impact in the final third as City pinned United back. 6

Casemiro

Beaten by Haaland in the air seconds before Gundogan smacked the ball in but gradually improved. Held his own in the midfield battle. 6

Fred

Had to start but could have been very good or very bad. He was the latter and irked United supporters early on. Fouled time and again and City scored from a free-kick Fred conceded. 3

Bruno Fernandes

Coolly converted his penalty to equalise and buoy United after a chastening start. Strove to make a difference. 6

Christian Eriksen

Often serene with the ball but it was apparent early on he would not last that long and he could barely keep up when City kept the ball. 5

Jadon Sancho

Too respectful of the blue shirt he once wore. Utterly fazed again and played as though on borrowed time. Only lasted beyond the 70-minute mark as United had an inadequate bench. 3

Marcus Rashford

Showed why he does not often play through the middle but had a good opportunity that he fired over. 5
