Manchester United need more than Rasmus Hojlund to solve their biggest problem

After months of speculation, Manchester United are finally on the brink of signing a much-needed striker.

Atalanta ace Rasmus Hojlund touched down on the Manchester runway on Tuesday afternoon and was soon whisked away in a chauffeur-driven people carrier. Destination: Carrington.

United reached a breakthrough in negotiations with the Italian club on Saturday to sign the 20-year-old, agreeing a fee worth £72million. They will pay £64m up front and an additional £8m in add-ons.

Considering he only joined Atalanta last August for just over £14m, it is an extortionate amount of money United are parting with for a striker that plundered just ten goals in 34 appearances. However, Reds manager Erik ten Hag has earned the right to take such a gamble after the success he brought to M16 last season.

Hojlund, in the eyes of United, has the potential to become a superstar under Ten Hag's guidance and coaching methods. The Dutchman has already proven with Marcus Rashford that he can get a tune out of anyone with a high ceiling, meaning that may have played a part in their thinking.

Hojlund, however, is going to be tasked with being the face of United's forward line. That is a huge challenge for any player, not least a fairly inexperienced 20-year-old.
