Man City have two players to prioritise in final month of summer transfer window

There is now less than a month left of the summer transfer window and Man City have only signed one player. It might be hard to sympathise with the treble winners over a lack of reinforcement, but their recent summer tour was further evidence that their squad depth isn’t as formidable as some rivals might think.

The brilliance of Pep Guardiola is that he works with what he’s got, and finds a way to extract the most out of the resources on offer. From the outside it might look like he’s had it all handed to him on a plate, but it is thanks to his managerial magic that he makes so many players look as good as they are.

This magic touch certainly eases some of the concerns heading into the new campaign, though there is a legitimate worry that City are yet to replace the quality they have lost in Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.

Mateo Kovacic already looks to be a smart addition to the side, though he is not necessarily a starter and will have to go a long way if he is to prove a worthy replacement for the departed club captain.
