Manchester United might already have an answer to one summer transfer wish

It could be an important couple of days for Manchester United in the pursuit of their next summer signing.

Mason Mount was the main attraction as United began their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 win over Leeds on Wednesday, though adding a midfielder was arguably third on the list of things to do this summer.

Erik ten Hag has made it his priority to sign a striker, and the club is in desperate need of a goalkeeper after David de Gea confirmed his permanent exit last week.

United are optimistic about the prospect of signing Andre Onana and John Murtough has already discussed the potential parameters of a deal for the Inter man. Murtough was in Oslo midweek as the search continued.

The Manchester Evening News revealed a week ago that United are even open to signing two 'keepers this summer given that Dean Henderson wants to leave and Nottingham Forest are keen to sign him.

They might not need to do that, though. While it is clear they need improvement within their starting options, Ten Hag might already have a suitable back-up at his disposal.

Tom Heaton impressed with his awareness to race to the halfway line and end a Leeds attack at the Ullevaal Stadion, though it was the youngster who replaced him at half-time who really caught the eye.

Even labelling Matej Kovar a youngster feels a little disingenuous at this point. 23 is certainly a young age for a goalkeeper, but he is already vastly experienced and has just returned from winning Goalkeeper of the Year and a league title with Sparta Prague.
