Manchester United midfielder Casemiro breaks cover after injury scare

Manchester United have been left sweating over the fitness of Casemiro after the midfielder sustained an ankle knock in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela on Friday.

The 31-year-old asked to be substituted in the 79th minute after feeling discomfort, with United later confirming on their website that the 'severity of the problem is unclear'. But the midfielder has now been spotted signing autographs for fans - with no apparent sign of injury.

The Brazil national team uploaded a brief clip of the United player onto its Instagram stories on Friday night, while a video on their website shows the midfielder walking off the team bus. United are due to take on Sheffield United in seven days' time. Casemiro is suspended for the subsequent Champions League clash with Copenhagen the following Tuesday after being sent off for two yellow cards during the 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray earlier this month.

Erik ten Hag will hope he is available for United’s first game back, though, and will be keeping an eye on whether Casemiro features in Brazil’s next 2026 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Speaking after the game, Brazil head coach Fernandeo Diniz explained Casemiro’s withdrawal. “As there was a stop (in play), I decided to make the three substitutions,” he told Globo Esporte. “We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle.”
