Guardiola rejects Manchester United claim as arrest made after 'missile' thrown at City's Haaland

Your Manchester City headlines for the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023.

A man caught on camera appearing to throw a 'missile' as Erling Haaland celebrated his first goal in the Manchester derby was detained and arrested, the Manchester Evening News can reveal.

Manchester City beat their old enemies United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, the 191st meeting between the sides. Haaland put the Blues 1-0 up in the first half after the intervention of the video assistant referee (VAR) saw a penalty awarded for a pull on Rodri by Rasmus Højlund.

After dispatching the spot kick, Haaland ran off and celebrated in front of the Stretford End. One picture snapped by a professional photographer at the match showed a number of United fans remonstrating with him and flicking the Vs.

Here are all the details.

Pep Guardiola hailed his Manchester City team for ridding themselves of doubt in time to outclass Manchester United.

Erling Haaland scored twice and Phil Foden also got in on the act as the Blues cruised to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford that gave them some revenge for a controversial defeat here last season. The win moves them nine points clear of their rivals, and up to within two of Tottenham at the top of the table.

The match emphasised the gulf between the teams and the clubs, with City having a clear vision and United struggling to muster up a coherent plan. However, while Guardiola praised the strong backing he has at the Etihad he rejected the idea that it had been easy for his team on Sunday.

Here's what he said.
