Manchester United hold 'interest' in Benfica striker and more transfer rumours
Manchester United have a 'tentative interest' in signing highly-rated Benfica striker Darwin Nunez to strengthen their attacking options.
That is according to a report by the Independent, who claim that United are keen on securing the signature of the 22-year-old Uruguayan international.
Nunez, who joined Benfica back in September 2020, was the subject of interest from West Ham United in last month's January transfer window, as David Moyes looked to beef up his attacking options.
However, the Hammers saw their move for the goal-getter knocked back, meaning he has remained at the Portuguese giants and continued to impress, scoring 23 goals in 29 appearances so far this season.
It is reported that United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been 'vocal' about the Reds' need to bolster their attacking options this coming summer and Nunez has been identified as a target to strengthen that area of the squad, although Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland remains the name on everyone's lips.
Furthermore, it is claimed that West Ham have retained their interest in his signature, but United could find come out on top if they win the race for a Champions League spot.
Since joining Benfica less than two years ago, Nunez has scored 37 goals in 73 games and chipped in with 14 assists, two of which have come this season.
Meanwhile, United have 'identified' RB Leipzig right-back Nordi Mukiele as a target ahead of this coming summer, a report by Fichajes claims.
The right-back area is a position that the club wanted to strengthen last summer with then-Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, with the vision that he would improve United's attacking output from the right side of the defence.
