Manchester United have six days to make important Hannibal decision

The summer window might have closed a week ago, but Manchester United still have some important transfer decisions to make in the coming days.

United's focus in the final days of the window focused on a mad dash to try and secure new signings; now the focus must be on trying to shift the surplus squad players at their disposal.

Eric Bailly has left for Besiktas, and Donny van de Beek could be on his way to Turkey in the coming days. They could be joined by a third United player as well.

Hannibal Mejbri remains at an awkward crossroads in his career, where he is wasted in the youth set-up but still not quite ready to be unleashed properly in the first team either.

The 20-year-old received plenty of interest in the summer window, but Erik ten Hag was reluctant to let him go, given United's own need for extra options in midfield.

While that might be in United's best interest, it doesn't look like it is in the player's. Hannibal has only been on the bench for one of the opening four Premier League matches and has already played a full match for the U21 side.

He has already proven himself more than capable at youth level and wasn't even involved when a youthful side defeated Stockport on penalties in the EFL Trophy last month. It begs the question of why they felt the need to keep him if he isn't playing regularly at any level.

Hannibal, who is now on international duty, was recently warned by Tunisia head coach Jalel Kadri that if he does not play regularly, his place in the national team may be at risk. The player himself wants to do so after getting his first real taste of it with Birmingham last season.
