Manchester United handed Manuel Ugarte transfer lifeline as £25m option disappears

There is just over a week to go until the summer transfer window closes with Manchester United one of the teams looking to do business in that time.

Erik ten Hag has added to his squad so far this summer. Striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro were joined by Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui last week.

Friday night’s season opener against Fulham at Old Trafford saw three of the four make their competitive debuts for the club. Zirkzee made the perfect impact, coming off the bench to score what turned out to be the winning goal of the game.

As the transfer window continues, and United prepare for their next game, there are various stories doing the rounds. The Manchester Evening News takes a look at some of the latest and gives our view on the situation.

United have been offered the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte on an initial loan deal, as Paris Saint-Germain attempt to reignite the transfer. The Telegraph report that there is ‘growing optimism’ that a deal can be reached before the end of the transfer window.

Ugarte emerged as a key target for Ten Hag’s side earlier in the window, but talks stalled over a difference in valuation between the two sides. PSG are said to have put a €60 million (£51.2m) asking price on the player's head.

However, it is now said that the French giants are willing to do a season-long loan with an obligation to buy clause inserted. There is still however said to be a gap of around €10 million (£8.54m) in the valuations.
