Manchester United end unwanted record and other moments missed in Everton win

Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory away at Everton on Sunday.

Alex Iwobi gave the hosts an early lead at Goodison Park as he curled a fine strike beyond the reach of David de Gea. United responded just 10 minutes later, though, as Antony placed an effort past Jordan Pickford.

The United winner came just before the break as Cristiano Ronaldo lashed the ball home from the left hand side of the penalty area. Marcus Rashford was denied a third towards the end due to a controversial VAR call that adjudged he'd handled the ball in the build-up to rounding Pickford.

However, this did not stop United from taking home a much needed three points. Here are some of the moments you may have missed from the victory on Merseyside.

Everton has not been a happy hunting ground for the Reds in recent years having not won there in front of a crowd since New Year's Day 2018. United did beat the Toffees 3-1 at Goodison in November 2020 but this was behind closed doors having taken place in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Antony and Ronaldo's strikes ensured that they ended the hoodoo surrounding Everton and moved the club up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Martial pre-empted substitution before the game

Ronaldo was not meant to be on the pitch in the 44th minute to score the eventual winner for United. However, Erik ten Hag had to call on the Portuguese ace earlier than he would have liked due to an injury to Anthony Martial.
