Manchester United could strengthen up to four squad roles after striker signing

While Manchester United are working on their third team-focused signing, Erik ten Hag is also keen to improve the quality of squad depth.

United could end the summer with three additions or, long shot though it is, there could be as many as seven. For that to happen, they would have to become successful sellers and they are infamous for failing to oversee clearouts in recent years.

Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga have already gone but bigger hitters have to make way if United are to continue retooling. Here are four positions of interest:

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson is still wearing Manchester United colours but is not likely to play for the club again. The sense is United and Nottingham Forest will reach an agreement for the 26-year-old's sale, even if the initial arrangement is another loan.

United have held discussions about Zion Suzuki and the Urawa Red Diamonds 'keeper could still journey west, although he would possibly be sent out on loan at first. United have had glowing feedback on Suzuki, 20, but club sources believe he is still too raw as a back-up 'keeper and would need to develop for a couple more years.

That poses a possible dilemma with Tom Heaton, who is due to speak to Ten Hag again about his future. Heaton, 37, has been frustrated by his limited playing time in the last two years at United and Ten Hag does not designate an outright number two and number three goalie.

Defender

Harry Maguire is the likeliest defender to leave United if they receive a bid north of £40million. West Ham United have indicated they will not up their £20m offer that was predictably rejected.
