Why Erik ten Hag is happy to keep Scott McTominay at Manchester United

Manchester United’s summer clear-out is in full swing, but midfielder Scott McTominay looks likely to stay at United beyond this transfer window.

As reported by the M.E.N, United have accepted a bid of around £30 million for defender Harry Maguire from West Ham. The London club also saw a similar bid rejected for McTominay, with Erik ten Hag happy to keep hold of the Scot for the upcoming season.

There is still time for many United fringe players to be shown the exit door, with interest in Fred from Fulham and Galatasaray, as well as a possible switch for Donny van de Beek in the pipeline. United could find themselves short of rotation options in the middle of the park.

Injury to homegrown starlet Kobbie Mainoo, who was set to be given more game-time this campaign, has also hindered the manager’s short-term plans. McTominay does provide value to United.
