Manchester United 'considering Gregor Kobel move' amid David de Gea uncertainty and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are 'considering' an approach for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel amid continued uncertainty regarding David de Gea's future, according to reports.

De Gea's contract at United is set to expire this summer, with a slew of major errors putting his future in the spotlight. Reds boss Erik ten Hag wants the Spaniard to stay on for another year, but he is also conscious of adding competition and bedding in a potential successor.

Brentford's David Raya has been regularly linked, but the Independent report that interest has turned to Kobel. The Swiss international has been a consistent starter for Dortmund in their most concerted title challenge in years, featuring 25 times in the Bundesliga and keeping 10 clean sheets in the process.

Encouraging for Ten Hag will be Kobel's quality in possession, with the 25-year-old able to play out from the back despite a high-profile error against Bayern Munich in April. Kobel's current contract at Dortmund runs until 2026, and the German side are aware of interest not just from United, but also Chelsea.

Elsewhere, InterLive reports that Aston Villa are interested in Denzel Dumfries as part of an Inter Milan double-swoop.

Dutch right-back Dumfries has been linked with a move to United in the past, with Ten Hag expected to strengthen that area of the pitch this summer. The club have held talks with Jeremie Frimpong, but will have a list of alternative options.

Dumfries is thought to be on that list, but the Inter defender could join Premier League rivals Villa instead, with Unai Emery plotting a double-swoop for him and midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
