Manchester United chase Benfica wonderkid and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are among the favourites to sign Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves, according to reports.

The 19-year-old already has three caps for Portugal, having made his international debut in October. Described as a deep-lying playmaker, Neves has emerged from the youth ranks following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea in January.

The prospect is the latest prodigy to emerge from the Benfica ranks, with Goncalo Ramos securing a £70million move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. A report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims United are monitoring Neves’ situation.

His modest wage leaves plenty of scope for Old Trafford chiefs to negotiate with the player’s agent. However, Benfica have a reported €120million release clause in Neves’ contract - making them the shot-callers as far as the transfer fee is concerned.

In other news, a report from Defensa Central has claimed United will allow Antony to join Real Madrid for £30million. That would mean taking a £55million hit on a player signed just 18 months ago.

The Brazilian has failed to impress since becoming Erik ten Hag’s marquee signing upon arrival. He's failed to earn a goal or assist this season. Given the Jadon Sancho situation, Antony has been given plenty of chances to impress but has so far failed to deliver when called upon. Real Madrid were said to have admired the winger before he made the move to United from Ajax.
