Manchester United could miss out to rivals in Jean-Clair Todibo transfer race and other rumours

Liverpool are reportedly leading Manchester United in the race to sign Nice's talented centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 24-year-old has proven to be a revelation for the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned Ligue 1 side in recent campaigns which led to links from United back in the summer window. Erik ten Hag wanted to sign a new defender in pre-season but struggled to stump up the money for improvements.

MEN Sport understands the Reds were willing to sell Harry Maguire to West Ham United but the former captain refused to join the Iron and has since managed to earn himself a spot among Ten Hag's favourites. Now, according to Nice-Matin, the defender is open to a switch to Merseyside ahead of United.

However, any deal is not expected to be completed in January. Interested clubs are thought to be put off spending €60m this winter while the player himself is believed to be unwilling to move mid-season so as to avoid disruption to his game time prior to Euro 2024.

Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with the centre-back but their recent acquisition of Radu Dragusin has ruled them out the process. Elsewhere, United are reportedly losing ground in the race to sign another player.

According to Premier League Brasil, Newcastle have edged in front of United to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The 24-year-old central midfielder has been making a name for himself in Serie A and has five goals to his name this campaign.

The Magpies are claimed to be sending representatives to speak to the Brazilian on Monday regarding a move this month. The Reds are also thought to be keen on the central player but are claimed to be 'watching from the sidelines'
